Through her successful career as an Interior Designer, Zoe Murphy discovered the need for beautiful art in homes. She aspires to live inside her own gallery-like space filled with art by the growing list of artists she'd one day love to own.

Tell us a little about yourself and the art you are
interested in?

I studied fine art painting at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne in the late nineties, however my art career was not to be. I segued into graphic design which lead to advertising, and then into buying and renovating homes.

I fell in love with interior design and styling, and along with that came the need for beautiful original art.
We are so blessed in Australia with the many talented artists and galleries at our fingertips. I spend a lot of my down time sifting through gallery stockrooms, hunting down available works from my hit list of artists.

I collect portraits, landscapes, abstracts, still life and recently sculptures. Some artists I’m keeping my eye on are Fiona McMonagle, Clare Brodie, Eliza Goose, Dale Frank, Dane Lovett, Tom Polo, Jonny Niesche, Laura Jones and Oliver Watts.

One day I aspire to live inside my own gallery! "Art Money has given me the opportunity to start collecting now!"

Tell us about the works you have purchased with Art Money?

I first used Art Money in 2020, and have since purchased
works by Paul Ryan, Nabilah Nordin, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran, Troy Emery, Stefan Dunlop, Huseyin Sami, David Band and McLean Edwards.

My first Art Money purchase was a painting by Stefan Dunlop from Edwina Corlette Gallery, Brisbane. Stefan Dunlop always grabs my attention! His subject matter carries a seriousness, challenging existing stereotypes and questions social and political correctness. His use of fluorescent and pastel greens, yellows and oranges both clash and balance themselves out resulting in a sense of joy. I could look into his work all day!

I've also purchased two paintings by Paul Ryan from James Makin Gallery, Melbourne. I admire Paul’s powerful swaths of colour and texture on canvas as he paints uncomfortable moments in our shared history. He also has a wicked sense of humour which I like in an artist. A very sought after contemporary painter with multiple awards and represented in many important public collections.

Why do you use Art Money?

Art Money has given me the opportunity to start collecting now, without it these works would not be obtainable. I see art as a long term investment, it also makes my family and friends smile, can lift the mood and start a conversation.
